Derek Lee Shelton (born July 30, 1970Carbondale, Illinois) is the hitting coach for the Tampa Bay Rays in major league baseball and a former professional baseball catcher.

He was a minor league catcher in the New York Yankees organization in 1992 and 1993, playing alongside Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.[1] In his minor league career, he batted .341 with a .428 on base percentage.[2]
He managed Yankee minor league teams for three seasons, in 2000-02, managing Robinson Cano among others, with his teams achieving a .624 won-lost percentage.[3][4]
After spending five seasons as the hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians, he accepted a job with the Tampa Bay Rays at the same position after the 2009 season, which he has served in to date.[1]
